Andrew Long was on 39 Appy which ran from Jan 1985 to March 1987. He now lives in the USA but would love to know more about Laverton and where people are now. He left the RAAF in 1996 and has been travelling ever since. He reckons he has seen a lot and done quite a few things, but mostly IT and E-Commerce related work. He will be travelling back around the world soon, and will then be back in Australia. If anyone has any 39RAC photos, he would love to see them (so would we—if you have any, please email them to us)
Steve Keddie was on 24Appy from Jan70 - Sep72. After Laverton he was posted to 2AD Richmond where he stayed for the balance of his 9 years. After discharge, he did a 2-year stint with AWA then joined what is now called Airservices Australia. He is currently based in Canberra at the Head Office. Steve said he has kept in touch with only 2 ex 24Appy blokes are, Murray Joel and Terry Crimean, both of whom he thinks are still employed by Cathay Pacific. If you knew Steve and would like to get in touch, contact us and we’ll arrange it.
I have only just found this web page so I have missed many things. Re the photo in Vol 11, page8, (left) I was also a member of that crew and have been in contact with Headley Horne and saw him in Perth, a few years ago. Brian Schurr (We have Brian's email address if anyone wishes to get in touch)
Hi Trevor, thank you for forwarding Andrew's
Email addy to me. I have been searching for him for years and years. We
were friends during our school years, and then we both joined the RAAF at
different times. We had caught up at that time, but then lost contact
again, then one day when I was working at HQSC, I couldnt believe that I
bumped into him in St Kilda Road when I was walking back from the barracks
to the defence centre, where I had worked for 8 years, actually with
people who knew him. It was an amazing co-incidence. I have emailed him,
and hope to hear from him in the near future, once again, thank you so
much, I really appreciate what you have done to help me, most people these
days wouldn't care. Janet Jordan I have to admit to having a little smile to myself when I read Ian Edgar's query about Ron Usher. Ian came back to Laverton as a Mech and joined my course (12 RMT) for the Tech phase. I also remember being ambushed by Ron as he leapt from behind a building in Tin City to catch us committing a heinous crime like having our hands in our pockets. 25 years later I worked with Ron in Air Force Office. I've got to say he had mellowed with age (or away from the training environment). He retired as a wing commander and is now heavily involved with the RAAF Association in Canberra. He also acts as an advocate helping guys with Vets Affairs claims. Peter Nelms Ron (not 'Bob') Shannon writes “I was browsing through the Radschool Mag for 2004 and in conjunction with a photo of 15 Course, Bob Hambling reckoned that the 15 course Ron Shannon was in fact "Bob Shannon". B/S !!! I should know! because I'm the real Ron Shannon off 15 course and I live in W.A. at Wooroloo about thirty miles east of Perth in the Darling Range. If you want to verify this, have a look at the photo of the Appy Hockey team ca 1961 - 62. (Vol 16 Page 8 see right - tb) You'll find me there on the right-hand end of the front row alongside Al Blyth, who, at the time, was smaller than me, unbelievably. The photo was in either the 2004 or the 2003 Mag. I'm not a member of the organisation because I live so far away from the centre of things and couldn't see the sense in spending that much money to travel that far, being an Ikey sort of bastard. But good luck to the rest of you mob. It's nice to recall the faces that go with the names, although I doubt I could recognise many on sight after all this time! Kind regards. (Bob Hambling, consider yourself told….tb)

Healthy is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. |
